Roane County is full of history and beautiful things, but one of them might become something extra special.

Governor Bill Lee created a new budget proposal that allows $63 million to create four new TN State Parks in Tennessee.

Sure enough Fort Southwest in Kingston, TN was mentioned to become an official state park of Tennessee.

Fort Southwest was a federal frontier outpost constructed in 1797 at the meeting of the Clinch and Tennessee rivers.

Federal soldiers stayed there until 1811 and it was a meeting point for the Cherokee and the U.S. government.

Fort Southwest has real forts built to provide a realistic original version of what it looked like in 1797.

The City of Kingston manages Fort Southwest now and features a museum with artifacts found on site for free.
