Luke Combs released a cover of Tracy Chapman’s original ‘Fast Car’, and it has quickly become a hit in country music.
In 1988 Chapman won a grammy for ‘Fast Car’.
Fans and Combs himself have been waiting on a response from Chapman and now the wait is over.
“I never expected to find myself on the country charts, but I’m honored to be there,” Chapman tells Billboard in a new statement.
“I’m happy for Luke and his success and grateful that new fans have found and embraced ‘Fast Car.’”
Combs said his cover didn’t require Chapman’s permission since he went through very strict and specific licenses about what he could/couldn’t do with the song.
Chapman is receiving royalties for Combs’ use of ‘Fast Car’.
