The beloved staple of Sweetwater, The Sweetwater Flea Market is set to shut down at the end of this month, ending a 34-year run.
Apparently the Covid-19 pandemic took its toll on the flea market, which played a major part in the decision to close it down officially.
Angela McNabb the Sweetwater Flea Market Manager says that the decision to sell the flea market came from a drought of customers and vendors.
“After COVID, we saw a decline in shoppers and vendors,” McNabb said. “A lot of people were doing online shopping from home and when the gas prices rose, we saw fewer shoppers.”
Sweetwater Flea Marker first opening in November of 1989.
“My husband and I have managed (the flea market) for 18 years,” she noted. “We have been proud to manage the flea market and it has been a privilege to work with so many fine vendors here at the market. The public has been great supporters of the flea market and we appreciate that. We hate for the market to close but I think everything has a time.”
Most of the vendors will continue to sell for the remainder of this month.
